A couple of months ago I posted about our ESX server going crazy and flipping channels.
This seems to now be fixed. It seems that VMware have new best practice for connecting blades to SANs in a redundant environment. Now they suggest that EACH CHANNEL should have independent connections to EACH FABRIC. So, there will be FOUR paths to each storage LUN.
In our case, we didn't have enough fibre ports for this, so instead we connected each port to a fibre switch which went to the equivalent fabric, then cross-connected the fibre switches to join the fabrics. This gave the same effect of four paths between each bladecenter and DS4700.
Seems to work nicely now (famous last words...)
